Pico Bonito National Park

The striking profile of Pico Bonito National Park rises abruptly from the coastal plain, almost completely forested to its peak at 8,000 ft. From its narrow, steep-walled canyons emerge dozens of rivers that flow crystal clear out through the pineapple fields and wetlands to the sea.

Increasing altitude transforms its dense lowland rain forest through several life zones into cloud forest. Access deep into the park is difficult, and successful trips to its summit can be counted on your fingers, but a number of river trails offer matchless swimming holes and a fascinating glimpse of the rain forest. High rainfall and steep slopes combine to form elegant waterfalls and spectacular scenery, and contribute to the churning currents of the Rio Cangrejal, offering some of the region's most exciting and accessible whitewater jungle rafting.

RAFTING RIO CANGREJAL HALF DAY RUN CLASS III TO V RAPIDS

The Rio Cangrejal (river of crabs) is the best white water rafting destination in Central America.

Lodgings are provided at the Omega Jungle Lodge where weary adventurers may refresh in the freshwater pool, relax in a hammock, feast on local or international fare and enjoy the evening "out in the jungle".

This trip offers an exceptional whitewater rafting experience for rafters of all levels. The trip rushes between giant boulders and bisects gorgeous jungle landscapes. The water here is warm enough to raft without a wetsuit and the riverbed offers spectacular views of the jungle and the mountains as it runs through the heart of Pico Bonito National Park.

Beginning rafters learn the basics of the sport at the side of the immense riverbed of the Rio Cangrejal where safety is the most important lesson. Within minutes though, you will be rushing through excellent class III-IV rapids, steep drops, and long wave-trains.

The trip also boasts a 5 meter cliff jump into the flowing water and white water swimming for all groups. All big fun in crystal clear, warm water between giant, smooth house-sized rocks.!

JUNGLE HIKING EL BEJUCO WATERFALL

This beautiful hike through the rainforest offers the opportunity to jump into crystal clear pools and shower under the 270 ft. El Bejuco waterfall. The hike begins with a hike down the Rio Cangrejal, where you decide if you want to swim across the river or do a 20 ft. cliff jump into a deep river pool. The rainforest is breathtaking as you ascend along the Bejuco Creek past smaller cascades of immense beauty.

The trip then takes you to the bottom of El Bejuco waterfall, where a brisk breeze emanates from the falling water. There may be no more refreshing place in the world than standing in the rainforest beside a roaring falls.

The return trip offers the chance to bath in a crystal clear pool under a 30 ft. waterfall.
