Cost: $150 per person
This is big time wilderness training. The absolute nightmare of any organizer or any hiker is going out with for a hike with more friends than you come back with. If one of your friends or loved ones went missing in the woods, what would you do? This course gives you an understanding of the essential skills and techniques needed to organize or assist in an operation to locate and evacuate a lost outdoorsman.
This course will include assigned reading, lecture, skill development and hands on scenarios.
Additional cost of $40 for text book "Fundamentals of Search and Rescue" . These need to be pre-ordered from the national search and rescue council or obtained from a library or friend.
Topics will include:
-introduction to search theory
-types of searches
-team and individual gear
-understanding the incident command system
-search strategies
-managing the lost person
-stretcher tie in and stretcher carry
-medical assessment of lost person
-effective evacuation
-establishing helicopter landing zone
-practice searches, and practical scenarios
