We are establishing an official Volunteer Board to help direct our charitable and volounteer efforts. Our little group has grown so much that I am unable to handle this on my own any more. So, for all of you who are interested, please come out to our organizational meeting.

I am very excited about the number of people who have expressed interest in helping out on our volunteer board. I am sorry to take so long to get back to you. With how much the club has grown, it takes up so much of my time now that I have to cordon off blocks of each day that are ?no TerraMar? blocks so I can actually spend time with Meghan and work on my day job which allows me to actually do such trivial things as eat and pay rent.

Here is my vision for the Board. When we started we had two goals which we have met pretty well so far and I would like your help to keep them going and improve them:

1. To hold six hands on community projects per year. These events in the past have been things like volunteering at Philabundence, the Earth Day clean ups, a hike we ran to raise money for charity, and the fundraising activities we did with our Broad Street Run Team.

I think that, with your help, we could really make this aspect of our club explode. It already goes so well. But, with your help the projects could get even stronger. For example, working together we can recruit more people for the Earth Day Project and get a full lunch donated for all volunteers. We may even be able to get plants and other materials donated to increase our impact. I just don?t have the hours in the day to grow it any bigger than it is already and I really would like to see it improve.

2. On months that we do not have a hands on project, I would like to have a social project/event by organizing a group of our people to go to another event that raises money for charity. For example, we could support the zookeepers Bowling for Rhinos event or the Philadelphia Rodeo. The emphasis here should be on environmental/children?s/poverty charities or on events that are adventure themed like the rodeo. The danger here might come from having members ask that we support their event and trying to choose between which ones to support. So, we need to have a clear policy to fall back on.

In addition to the two initial goals, I have a third goal which is top secret for now. It will depend a bit on the level of interest and commitment our Board has.

This event will be at my apartment. So, I am not posting the address on the internet. I will send it to all registrants. If you cannot make it at this time, just email me and I will catch you up on what happens.
