Kick Off Meeting and 3 Mile Run to train for the Broad Street Run!

Operated by: TerraMar Adventures

Event Leader: Carl

Lloyd Hall

Boathouse Row
Philadelphia, PA 19103

Are you ready to push ourselves to our strongest and best, to do things most people not only have not done but cannot do? Do you want to train with friends new and old?

Once again, we will be getting together to form a training team for the Broad Street Run. The run is on May 3, 2009 and is the best 10 mile run in the entire country. Join our team and train together to kick some butt this year. If Broad Street goes well, we will keep going, training for a half and/or full marathon later in the year.

Today, we will run 3 miles and get our team going. More advanced runners will run 7-10 miles. To get ready for today, just make sure you can run 3 miles or 30 minutes, 3 times per week. We will take it from there.

I hope we see you on Sat. Here are the details. . .

The following is an initial schedule for our training team:
2/21/08 (Saturday), 9am: what: 3 mile run and "get to know" the team
where: Lloyd Hall (the public boathouse on
boathouse row, right behind the Art Museum and next to the Waterworks)

every Saturday following, 10am: what: long run day
where: either from the store or a location
to be determined (I will try to arrange a few
runs from local parks like Valley Forge or
Clay Creek).

The program will also include 2-3 workouts per week (depending on your fitness level and goals) which will be on your own. I will try to create a database of team members so you can find other team members to work out with for the other weekly workouts.

We also are running to raise money for charity

Our goal is to raise, as a team, a minimum of $100 per team member. $100 will cover the cost of one student to train for, enter and complete the Philadelphia Marathon. We have two group fundraiser in the plans. The first is a pledge drive among friends, family and coworkers. Please ask them to support you. Think, if you just get 10 people to give you $1 for each mile you will be running, we will have reached our goal. I am attaching a copy of the pledge sheet or you can download the pledge sheet here http://travel.meetup.....

The second fundraiser will be a party and silent auction in April. Even if you cannot run with the team, I hope you will attend our party and help us raise funds. I will need help from you all on this one. But, together it should be easy.

Cost: approx $44 for the program. This includes the training program and individual training from the coach, a technical team jersey made from fast wicking fibers suitable for running long distances, invaluable team camaraderie, organized weekly group runs, and snacks and water at all group runs. This does not include your entry fee to the race (Usually $25 if postmarked by March 31, 2008.)

To enroll, all you need to do is fill out the commitment to help the team try to make its fundraising goal, pay for the program and sign the liability release.
